Finally got a minute to post a little about the trip…it’s been almost nonstop activity since arriving 8 days ago. Began with leaving at 5 am on Friday, 8/6, for a trip to the Fenton Glass Factory in West Virginia and then on to Raleigh, NC for my neice Harmony’s wedding. Trip was long–about 12 hours–and Raleigh was one of the worst towns I’ve ever visited. Driving in that place was a NIGHTMARE!! Hopefully I will never have to visit that dreadful place again!
Almost all the family made it to the wedding and it was lots of fun getting to visit with all of them. Kelly brought along a great dvd featuring “Eartha Quake” and all her friends that we all sat around watching Sat night–tons of fun!!!
Friends Marnie and Janice from high school stopped by the hotel where we stayed on Sat morning, and it was wonderful getting to see them again. The next day it was off to the other side of NC to brother Mickey’s for a cookout and for a chance to meet his new girlfriend! She was great and we all had a good time telling her lots of family secrets, embarrassing the hell out of Mickey!
After lots of wandering through antique shops/malls, Sally and I arrived in Mayberry (Mt. Airy), NC to visit all the highlights from The Andy Griffith Show. Sat in the chair in Floyd’s Barber Shop, visited the Andy Griffith Museum, wandered through the town and did lots of shopping.
Speaking of shopping, did I mention that we did lots? Get ready Patrick…you may need to borrow a truck to bring home my luggage from the airport!
On the way home from Mayberry we hit an unbelievable thunder, lightening and hail storm. We could barely see and had to pull off to the side of the road, waiting for it to pass. It was followed by a beautiful rainbow above the river alongside the road we were traveling. Kinda fun to see some wild weather that we rarely see in CA…
Today we’re at sister Kelly’s having a cookout–with *real* bratwurst! Last night went to niece Mandy’s house for homemade lasagne and homemade blueberry cobbler! This morning sister Sally fixed biscuits and gravy for breakfast…I’ll be amazed if I haven’t gained at least 5 lbs from this trip!
No doubt I’ll have other stories from the trip later. For now that’s it…
