Big deal. The only good thing is that I am off work. However, I would have probably been off sick anyhow even if it wasn’t a holiday. Finally was able to sleep laying down flat last night which was a big help. Sleeping sitting up just isn’t very restful and results in lots of little naps throughout the day. So I spent most of the long weekend sneezing, coughing and napping. Finally went to the drugstore yesterday and picked up some Tylenol Chest Congestion. It seems to be helping, so I’m hopeful this crud is out of my system within the next few days.
Meanwhile, I’ve done very little that’s productive all weekend. I am sooo bummed out. I had plans to get so much accomplished, but sat around watching tv, playing sudoku, playing various computer games and surfing the web. Did do a bit of shredding of junk mail and a little bit of sorting and tossing of stuff that’s piled up. Not enough though. Maybe I’ll get motivated today since I had a reasonable amount of sleep last night.
Almost forgot…I did do something productive on Saturday. We have an election coming up for our local city council. Our current city councilman has been doing a fairly good job, in my opinion. We have a few issues that have come up lately regarding how space is being used in the city. An area that is currently being used by a nursery (gardening type) has been proposed to be taken over by a huge storage facility and the nursery was told they had to close. A pizza place closed down and was reopened as a strip club. While the storage facility plans were put on hold and the strip club was closed down after only a few months in operation, a huge group of neighbors are laying all the blame for these neighborhood problems on our councilman. So this group of neighbors has come up with a candidate to run against this councilman–one of their own, so to speak. He’s a local businessman (he doesn’t say what kind of business) who has little experience but lots of money. Thus he’s able to finance a campaign that includes tons and tons of yard signs as well as numerous mailings that do nothing more than badmouth the current councilman.  I hate campaigns like that! So I called the councilman’s campaign office and told them they could put campaign signs in my front yard. I can’t afford to contribute or work for his campaign, but maybe the signs will help to show my neighbors that not everyone around here supports the other guy’s negative campaigning. The councilman was more than willing to take me up on my offer. The signs were in my yard Sunday morning when I went out to get the newspapers.Â
