First the baby update. Soula has been diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Her blood sugar level was 196 and she will be meeting with a nurse dietician next week to review a diet and exercise plan to bring down her sugar level. The doctor feels the baby is doing fine, which is good. I think Soula will be fine, but I know this is stressful for her to find out 6 months into her pregnancy. Maybe the new diet plan will make her feel better. We just have to hope that something good will come out of all this–other than the baby, of course!
Vanessa stopped by earlier today and, as I was showing her my backyard garden, I found tomato worms chewing the leaves on my plants! While she was here I found 2-3 worms. Later this evening I went out to check them again and found at least a dozen more! Turns out Murphy loves tomato worms and ate all of them. I hadn’t planned on letting him eat them, but he licked them off the concrete after I threw them off the plants and smashed them. Hopefully this won’t cause a problem inside Murphy. Now gotta start checking the tomato plants daily for worms…
Meanwhile, I think the spray that I put on the petunias did the trick since there have been no budworms for two days! The stuff that wound up working was Orthenex. Now I just have to figure out how often I need to spray.
Murphy and Baby both came running in the house tonight with giant grasshoppers in their respective mouths. So for about 20 min I had 2 grasshoppers jumping all over the family room! I captured both of them and tossed them out back where I hope they jump off…provided they didn’t lose a leg during the time they spent inside the animal mouths.
While I was outside I noticed the return of a wonderful scent–the night-blooming jasmine is back! All three bushes are loaded with blooms so I expect the evenings for the next couple of weeks will be absolutely marvelous. All I want to do right now is sit out back and inhale that wonderful fragrance.
I had great plans today to get lots done around here and wound up doing very little. I made the mistake this afternoon of watching a movie that I TiVo’d a couple of weeks ago and there went the day. At least I got everything watered, but that was about it. I also planned to go shopping for clothing, but just never got motivated enough to go anywhere. Ah well, maybe tomorrow I’ll get something accomplished.
I will be starting work with the auditor on Monday, so I figure I’d better relax while I can since I’ll probably just want to collapse when I get home this week. At least I’ll be able to collapse and won’t have to worry about doing anyone else’s accounting when I get home.Â

Went out this morning and pulled off 3-4 more!
I heard from a gardening friend in Los Osos that spraying vinegar water will keep those tomato bugs away.
