I decided to cancel my Vonage phone service. The service was ok–sometimes better than others–and the price was great–around $28/mo for unlimited long distance anytime–but I now have a bundled package through my cable company. The price is about the same and the quality of the phone calls is lots better. So I called Vonage today to cancel.
After going through numerous ‘if you want this, press that’ I finally got to the person who was able to cancel my service. He asked why I was cancelling, and I told him the truth. Then he started his pitch. First he offered me the same service for $19.95 per month. I said no, cancel my service. Then he offered it to me for $14.95 per month. I said no, cancel my service. Then he came back and said how would I feel about getting the service for free…for one month. Again I said no, cancel my service. But that wasn’t the end of it. He then asked how about free service for 2 months! At this point I had about had it. I just kept saying cancel my service.
Meanwhile, the people who work in offices adjacent to mine were going nuts. At least 3 people stuck their head in my door to ask what was going on. None could believe I was having this much trouble cancelling this phone service.
Finally, after 1/2 hour on the phone with this guy, he agreed to cancel. What is wrong with this? I’m paying the damn bill, so why do I need him to agree to the cancellation?! Had I known I would have been offered these lower rates, I would have suggested cancellation a long time ago! I called Patrick (who also has Vonage service) and told him to call them asap. He should be able to save at least $10 per month.
