I was able to finally eat some tomatoes from my garden tonight with dinner…and they were absolutely delicious! I’ll probably only get about a dozen full-size tomatoes, but it definitely was worth planting them. Next year I’ve got to figure a way to enclose the plants to keep the poachers out. It seems the small cherry tomatoes are of no interest to whatever is eating the big ones. The little ones were being eaten by the mouse that I caught in a trap early on but are doing fine now. I’ve picked at least 30-40 so far and there are lots more on the plants that still need to ripen.
The rest of the veggies are doing well, too. I have 7 zucchini and 5 cucumbers with more yet to come. I’m going to try to make some zucchini bread this weekend. If it turns out well then I’ll make more and freeze it. I may also try making some fried zucchini, but I doubt I can match the taste of the Tops zucchini that I really love. Who knows, though. Will head out to the grocery tomorrow to pick up all the ingredients and then will start experimenting in the kitchen. A fun ending to my vacation.
