Both of my sons have had bouts of sciatica, Kevin having it the most seriously for the past ten years. Well, now it’s my turn. Started with pain in my right hip on Sunday that is radiating down my right leg. Nothing seems to help the pain other than pain killing meds. I’m taking ibuprofen during the day while working and have popped a vicodin each night for the past two evenings. Sleeping is fine, but it’s hell getting up in the morning. And work has been difficult as the pain seems to last all day in different degrees. I’m trying some exercises recommended by Vanessa, but nothing is doing a lot of good right now. Apparently the pain eventually goes away, only to return when least expected at a later date. I’m ready for it to go away soon.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a Trackbacki have this too from time to time. can you get to a massage therapist? it can help greatly. also there is a spot on your backside that presses on that nerve. if you can find it and then lean up against it and press it will relieve the pain.
ok here’s the trigger point trick …better described here..

Unfortunately, after being off work for almost 6 weeks, it’s difficult for me to take time off so soon to go to a massage therapist. I just have too much work to do! I’m trying the exercises (which do help) but everything is quite temporary. I get the most relief from laying in bed. Wish I could stay there all day!
try the tennis ball trick on your butt…it does help relieve that shooting pain down your leg. you will know when you hit the spot on your butt as the pressure will hurt on that spot…endure it and it should help the pain.
