I took my car in for service last week. One of the things that happened was replacement of the battery. On the way home on Friday I noticed the word “code” on the radio display and the radio refused to turn on. Yesterday I took the car back in to have the work finished (only time for half last week) and asked about the radio code. Turns out it’s a security feature meant to deter theives from taking the radio.

So I called our local Honda dealer to find out how to reset it since I don’t have the original documentation, having bought the car used. They need the serial number for the radio in order to get the code from Honda. The serial number is on the back side of the radio. In order to get to it, the radio must be removed from the dashboard at a cost of $84!

They did say that sometimes there is a sticker either in the glovebox or the center console with the serial number on it. I found such a sticker on the inside of the glovebox. Let’s hope it’s the one.
