I’m totally absorbed by these fires, watching a variety of tv stations, depending on who’s covering them. I keep going outside, checking to be sure I can’t see flames anywhere or smell anything burning. Fortunately, all I can see is a clear night sky with an almost full moon up above. And all I can smell is the night-blooming jasmine that has decided to bloom non-stop all fall.
It is unbelievably warm outside. I went out back in my pajamas (short ones) and could have sat out there for as long as I wanted and not feel cold. I’m guessing the temperature must still be in the 70’s. However, the humidity is really low. I took a bath and washed my hair around 7:30 pm. By 8 pm, my hair was completely dry! It is no wonder everything is burning so quickly.
It’s just amazing to see the devastation in some of the neighborhoods. Tonight they are showing regular neighborhoods like mine–not the multi-million-dollar mansions in Malibu. They showed one area that reminded me of the Arrowhead development in Xenia, Ohio after the tornado went through there back in the 70’s. One house was completely wiped out, nothing but a pile of rubble and ashes. And yet the house right next door looked like it hadn’t been touched. It’s hard to understand how that can happen.
The announcement just came that another new fire has started–the Magic Fire. It’s right next to the Magic Mountain amusement park just north of LA. There are now 3 fires in that area that they anticipate could merge into one giant fire. This brings the total number of fires up to 15.
Tomorrow we’re supposed to get some huge tanker planes sent in by the feds as well as firefighters from Oregon, Nevada, Arizona and Colorado. National Guard troops are being pulled off border patrol and sent in to help. Who cares if we get illegals coming across the border! We’re going to need those undocumented workers to help these people rebuild!
